FEAR in Branding ... Happy Halloween

Monthly Maven Memos

Hi Reader,

I hope this email finds you well. Today is Halloween so for those of you who celebrate it Happy Halloween. I never grew up celebrating Halloween it wasn't a big thing in Australia back then. But being in the States, I have embraced the day and love decorating the front of the house and giving out candy. Every year we have a couple of friends over, and we all sit in the front yard handing out candy while enjoying people-watching, my husband loves to try and scare the kids.

One thing that comes to mind on a day like Halloween is the word 'fear', which got me thinking about a quote from Zig Ziglar that has always resonated with me:

F-E-A-R has two meanings: “Forget Everything And Run” or “Face Everything And Rise”

When I think about this quote it makes me think about the word ‘FACE’.

We often hear phrases like:
FACE the Challenges
FACE the Consequences
FACE the Opinions
FACE the World

When you think about ‘your’ face it is a big part of what makes you unique, it’s your distinguishing feature. But it’s also something we all share - we all have a FACE.

Anatomically we may be the same, but our features and details create a unique look that cannot be replicated. A face can paint a thousand words, it’s a canvas of your inner self. It can portray the innocence of a child, or it can tell a story of hardship and triumph. A face can be as smooth as a newborn’s or as weathered as a wise elder’s.

No matter what FACE we wear or what is put in our path to FACE, let’s do so recognizing life is a journey, and that journey isn’t always a straight path. It’s a long and winding road, with turns, curves, detours, and overpasses. But if we learn to “Face Everything’, as Zig Ziglar says, and face it together through collaboration and community, we will all rise and grow.

Why do I say all this?
Because in entrepreneurship, ‘branding is your face”. Your brand is what makes you unique, it’s how you stand out from the crowd. Just like our unique faces, your brand’s features and details are a part of what makes the brand unique. The foundational principles of branding (mission, vision, and purpose) are consistent elements across all businesses. But building a unique brand starts with creating a unique mission, vision, and purpose - it starts with your brand’s ‘inner why’.

Without this foundation, your brand risks getting lost in the crowd. As you continue on your brand’s journey you will then begin to add details to your blank canvas by sharing your message and building connections and relationships, which leads to branding success.

I’m here to remind you when you’re overwhelmed by branding or all the thoughts running through your mind about your business, don’t follow the first meaning of F-E-A-R and “forget everything and run” instead apply F-E-A-R in branding: ‘Face Everything And Rise’.

Know that you are not alone in your journey. We each have our business and a brand that helps us stand out. We also face our unique challenges and opportunities, but in essence is a shared common experience. The journey of entrepreneurship is complicated and can be stressful, but it’s in these challenges and opportunities that we truly grow and define our brands.

So, when you’re feeling overwhelmed by the intricacies of branding or the roadblocks in your path, remember that you’re not alone. Embrace the second meaning of F-E-A-R: ‘Face Everything And Rise.’ Face your branding challenges with determination, connect with like-minded entrepreneurs, and build your brand on the strong foundation of your mission, vision, and purpose.

Just as every face tells a story, your brand can tell a powerful narrative, allowing you to create a brand that stands out and leaves a lasting impact.

Let’s encourage and support each other in our entrepreneurial journeys. Together, we can face everything and rise, achieving our goals and making a difference in the world. I'd love for you to share your thoughts and experiences with me, and let’s continue this journey together!”
